Based on our previous experience, none of our applicants were asked for a rental agreement. To be on the safe side, we suggest to always stick to the official embassy checklist. If a rental agreement is listed as a requirement but obtaining it presents an issue for you, we can also try with an 'accommodation letter' signed by your company that states that you will receive support in the apartment search.
