You can usually only be registered in one place at a time, meaning when you register at the new residence, you will be automatically be de-registered from the old residence. In regard to whether or not this would mean you immediately have to leave your original residence, please contact your landlord/housing agency about this matter and see if they have any rules in place for a situation like this.
