After successfully completing the registration in Austria it is possible to visit the local immigration office that has handled the work permit application in order to pick-up the residence permit (RWR card, EU Blue card, family permit, etc). An appointment is usually not necessary (exception in Vienna). When visiting the office you need to carry your passport with visa, original birth certificate and police clearance certificate.

For EU citizens

EU citizen are free on the European labor market and do not require a residence permit. However when intending to live and work in Austria for more than 3 months, EU citizens need to do a registration to get a so-called “Anmeldebescheinigung”.

This needs to be submitted to the local registration office, together with the following documents:

  • passport scan

  • employment contract

  • health insurance confirmation

  • for children: school enrolment certificate
