If you are allowed into the country at border control, an immigration officer will stamp your passport and add a date to the stamp. You must register before this date (typically 90 days).

You must visit a Registration Office (ISD registration) in order to register your stay and receive the IRP.

If you live in Dublin City or county, go to Burgh Quay Registration Office to register in person. You must also book an appointment online before your visit. You can book an appointment here (up to 10 weeks in advance): https://burghquayregistrationoffice.inis.gov.ie/

If you live outside Dublin, you must go to a regional office to register. Overview of regional offices here: http://www.inis.gov.ie/en/INIS/Pages/registration-offices. You may need an appointment to visit a regional registration office. Contact your local office before you visit to check opening days and times.

Registration based on employment permit

To register, you must apply in person at a registration office. If your visit is successful, you will be given a registration certificate called an Irish Residence Permit (IRP).

You must bring the following documents when registering:

  • Passport

  • Original Employment Permit

Cost and payments: You must pay a fee of โ‚ฌ300 per person to register. The fee can be paid with Bank giro and Credit/debit card (only in some offices). Contact the local office to confirm the payment method before your appointment.

  • Registration in Dublin: If your visit is successful, the immigration officer will stamp your passport and register you before your appointment ends. Your IRP will then be sent to you by post (should arrive within 5 to 10 working days).

  • Registration outside of Dublin: If your visit is successful, the immigration officer will record your details and arrange a new date/time for you to return to the office to finish your registration. Your registration cannot be completed at the first visit because parts of the process are managed centrally. At your second visit, the immigration officer will stamp your passport, register you and give you your IRP.

Registration based on family dependent permit

A family dependent of an EU citizen, or a CSEP holder can apply for a residence permit together with their sponsor.
