Many of us know know attending an embassy appointment can be very nerve-wrecking. You will have to face the task of completing many rigorous documents on top of planning for a brand new future.
This article was written to help you gain peace of mind and clarity pertaining to your embassy appointment and what to expect.
NOTE: Each individual must have their own application form filled out (ex: spouse, child, etc.)
First, and foremost it is important to note that many of the consulates/embassies will have their own checklists such as this one from Los Angeles, California, USA.
General documentation:
Individual passport style photo
Passport original and photocopy of main page
Work permit approval (NIE can be found on top left side)
Work contract signed by both parties (employee and employer)
Certification of absence of police records (original, photocopy,
translation, photocopy of translation)
*Must be of where the applicant was residing in the past five years. If these documents have been issued outside of the current country or Spain they must be legalized or have the Apostille of the Hague stamp and be officially translated into Spanish.*Medical Certificate (original, translated and photocopy) example LAC: here
Payment of visa fee (money order, etc.)
If relocating with family: translated and apostilled/legalised marriage certificate and/or birth certificate of child.
There might be other documents required. Please double check the official documentation on the embassy website and/or ask your case manager.
