What is a Right to work check ?

A right to work check is a Home Office process to establish that each employee or casual worker has the right to work in the UK before they start their employment.

In practice, even when you are being sponsored as a worker to work in the UK, the protocol will require your employer to submit a right to work check for regulatory maintenance purposes.

How to do a right to work check ?

You will need to follow the link here and generate a share 'code' which can be shared with your employer. The information which will be shared is details of your right to work in the UK including:

  • the types of job you’re allowed to do

  • how long you can work in the UK for

You will need the following documents to check your right to work.

  • your biometric residence permit number

  • your biometric residence card number *(if BRP is not available)

  • your passport or national identity card
