At the end of your appointment (cita) you will receive an important document (proof of a successful appointment). This proof is referred to as a "resguardo". You will need to bring it along with your passport or old TIE in order to collect your new TIE.

Do not misplace this document! It is extremely important.

When the authorities give you the resguardo, they will tell you when to return to the comisaría to pick up your card - it is generally 30-45 days later.

Your resguardo will state the lote (batch) that your TIE is in. You can use this as a reference to know when your TIE will be ready for pickup. Each comisaría is different but you can usually call to see what lote they are on, sometimes they post the number outside the building.

In certain cities you will need to get another appointment to collect the card. If this is the case, the government official should have told you so. Currently this is employed in Barcelona and Madrid, but it may change. You will have more detailed information on how to book the TIE collection appointment in the respective To-Do step once you have reached that point.

Note 1: Your lote number, the first four digits of which will be the current year, is the important number. Ex- Lote: 2021/100

Note 2: Make sure to attend the same comisaria where you did your fingerprints.
