You've arrived in Germany and need to get registered? Here's how!

General Information:

  • Registration in Germany is mandatory and should be done as soon as possible. The law currently requires you to register within two weeks of moving in.

  • Try to book the appointment in advance as it might take some time to get one.

  • You need a confirmation of your landlord (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung) to register in Germany. If you only have temporary housing, make sure your landlord is willing to provide you with this document.

  • Not every employee at the registration office speaks English - try to prepare your documents well and make sure you are on time, then it should all work out. 😊

  • If you're moving with your family, keep in mind that everyone has to register. You can book an appointment for everyone together, but usually you need one application form per person.

Necessary documents:

  1. Administration fee (approx. between €10 and €15)

  2. Signed confirmation from your landlord

  3. Valid visa

  4. Filled application form for registration for each applicant

  5. Make sure that your passport is valid: issued within the last 10 years and valid for at least another year as of date of visa application; passports with observations regarding the front data page cannot be accepted and with at least two empty pages. Copy of your passport’s data page (2x A4 size copy)

Book the registration appointment:

To register, in most cases you have to book an appointment at your local service center. Service centers are usually very busy so it makes sense to look for an appointment ahead of time. If no appointment is available currently, try booking again in the next days. Usually, appointments get canceled and become available again at short notice. You can book the appointment via the link on the Localyze page.
