When taking up employment in Germany, you are required to be insured with a German public (or private) health insurance provider.

Apart from the necessity of choosing the general health insurance in Germany, you might most likely also need a travel insurance to get your visa that covers the time between the date of your (planned) departure and your first day at work in Germany. A partner we can recommend is Safetywing.

Many German embassies ask for a proof of travel insurance, but some only request a proof of travel insurance once they have approved your visa, as you will then have more certainty and will be able to plan your date of departure and get your travel insurance starting on the according date.
